MINDROLLING MONASTERY

Mindrolling, which means "Place of Perfect Emancipation" in the Tibetan language, is the largest Buddhist Vihara of India, training monks for over 300 years. It was begun by the Nyingma sect. Rigzin Tendak Lingpa in 1676. Post numerous attacks and destruction due to natural calamities, its present structure is the contribution of Khochhen Rinpoche. The monastery is dedicated to the learning of Buddhist scriptures, Tibetan lunar calendar, astronomy, Traditional Tibetan medicine, and calligraphy. Ngagyur Nyingma College, one of the biggest Buddhist institutions in India is housed on its campus.
